The Castle, Cape Town
The pentagon-shaped stone fort called the Castle was built in 1670 on the waterfront at Cape Town primarily to protect the first Dutch settlers from the aboriginal inhabitants, the KhoiKhoi. The feared attack for which the fort was built never took place. It now serves as the head offices of the colonial government. The Governor’s residency is pictured here..
